Red Flag Warning In Effect Through Friday

khts_redflagwarning1The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning because of high temperatures and single-digit humidity expected throughout the Southland through Friday.

Along with the hot and dry conditions, temperatures are expected to soar into triple digits through the interior and valley sections of the Santa Clarita and Antelope Valleys.

Temperatures around 106 degrees are expected and some temperature records could be broken.

Because of the heightened fire weather concerns, a Red Flag Warning has been issued, and residents should be prepared for the possibility of wildfire. For the “Ready, Set, Go” guidebook published by the Los Angeles County Fire Department, click here.

The Red Flag Warning will remain in effect until 9 p.m. Friday for the mountains and valleys. The combination of long duration single-digit humidity, hot temperatures and critically dry fuels has prompted this Red Flag Warning. Hot and dry conditions are expected to persist on Saturday with some cooling by Sunday.

The long duration heat event could pose health hazards for anyone outdoors, especially the elderly, small children and pets. If you plan on being outdoors, remember to remain hydrated by drinking plenty of water, wear loose-fitting clothing and a hat and remain in the shade or indoors as much as possible. Never leave children or pets in cars with the windows up or cracked during the day, even for a very short time as temperatures can quickly reach lethal levels.
