Redheaded Orphan Offers Sunny Outlook: ‘Annie’ Takes Stage At COC

Annie_Warbucks_smallIf you’re feeling a little down, there’s a perky redhead ready to sing your blues away, as the Santa Clarita Regional Theater presents “Annie” at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons, opening Saturday night and playing for four weekends.

Yes, the state of our economy is depressing. In fact, some say the economy hasn’t been in this shape since the Great Depression of the 1930’s. But, as Little Orphan Annie sings, “The sun will come out tomorrow!” and “Annie” is the show to bring out the sun, and smiles too!

TimBen Boydston, Executive and Artistic Director of the Santa Clarita Regional Theatre and the Canyon Theatre Guild said, “Everyone needs a little sunshine in their lives, especially in these times. We know that there are those who can’t afford to put sunshine in their lives right now, so the SCRT would like do our part to help. We are giving free tickets to the unemployed and their immediate families, while supplies last. Just contact the box office. We’re sure that “Annie” will put a smile on your face and a song in your heart.”

In this well-known tale, Annie’s optimism cheers the homeless New Yorkers who are living in a Hooverville shanty town, as well as lifting the spirits of President Roosevelt and his Cabinet. Throw in a dastardly orphanage ‘mother’ and her shyster relations, a missing locket and the plot thickens – until justice prevails and everyone lives happily ever after.

“Annie” is played by Brooke Veluzat, billionaire Oliver Warbucks is played by Greg Finley, and his secretary Grace Farrell is Kara Slocum. The evil Miss Hannigan is Leslie Berra, and her hoodlum brother, Rooster is Brad Rennels.

“Annie” is family entertainment at its best and you can see it this summer without having to leave Santa Clarita. “Annie” has performances on Saturday evenings at 8:00 pm on August 7 and 14 as well at 2:00 matinees on August 1, 7, 8, 14, and 15. Ticket prices range from $12 to $29 depending on seat location and age of patron. Don’t wait until “Tomorrow,” make your reservation now for this limited engagement brought to you by the Santa Clarita Regional Theatre and presented at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons.
