Refreshing Lemonade Helps Kids ‘As You Like It’

lemonadeoneShakespeare lovers will have one more chance to enjoy a refreshing cup of lemonade and support two young girls dedicated to raising money for childhood cancer research.

Madison Stears and her friend are hosting Alex’s Lemonade Stand at Sunday’s free performance of Shakespeare in the Park.  The Lemonade is free, but donations are gladly accepted for Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, fighting childhood cancer one glass at a time.

Madison is a second-grader at Meadows Elementary School wanted some summer projects: to donate money to help kids that are ill, and she wanted to have a lemonade stand.

Her mother, Debbie, heard about a charity that combined both ideas.  Mother and daughter investigated Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation online and decided to host a stand.

“Our goal is very modest this year,” said Debbie. “We wanted it to be a good lesson and a positive experience for her and her friends.”

The pair decided setting up a lemonade stand at the Sunday free Shakespeare in the Park Performances of “As You Like It,” at Towsley Canyon Park would be the perfect venue.

Good thing they knew someone there. Madison’s father is David Stears, the Executive Director of the Santa Clarita Shakespeare Festival.

“Debbie thought  it would be the best way to reach thirsty people,” he said.

With each glass of thirst-quenching lemonade, donors will get a lemon with their name in it posted on the donation board.  100% of the donations for the lemonade go to Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation.  Smart & Final in Newhall donated the lemonade for the event.
