September 11, 2011, marks the 10 year anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks that took the lives of nearly 3,000 people. Americans across the nation will join in commemoration services for our fallen and active duty service men and women while celebrating our freedom because of their sacrifices. Here are some of the 9/11 remembrance events coming up in September.
Saugus High School Memorial Ceremony
At 9 a.m. on September 9, Saugus High School will remember the devastation of 9/11 and reflect on the commitment of our armed forces, law enforcement, firefighters, and first responders. Students will present a video; the choir and band will perform patriotic songs; families of individuals who died in the war on terror will be honored; and military, police, and fire members will be honored. 2,988 U.S. flags (one for each life lost on 9’11) will be planted in the central quad amphitheater.

Fear Not – Grace Baptist Church
Grace will host services of remembrance to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the attacks. Services will feature the musical ministry sanctuary choir and praise orchestra. Services are scheduled at 5:30 p.m. Sept. 10 and 9 and 10:45 a.m. Sept. 11. For more information, visit gracebaptist.org.

National Moment of Remembrance
At 10 a.m. on September 11, first responders, houses of worship, towns, and others throughout the country will sound sirens and bells in a signal to each of us to stop and remember the 10th anniversary of the tragedies of September 11, 2001.

9.11.11 Remember Honor Reflect
College of the Canyons, City of Santa Clarita, Artists of Santa Clarita
At 3:30 p.m. on September 11, at the Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center at College of the Canyons, artists from throughout the SCV will present a program remembering the fallen, honoring those who serve, and celebrating our nation’s freedom. Proceeds from the tribute and a following art show will benefit the SCV Warrior Scholarship for student veterans at COC.

The Honor Court Dedication
NorthPark Community Church
At 7 p.m., a dedication service will be held at NorthPark’s new Honor Court that includes tiles commemorating those from our valley in law enforcement, emergency response, and the armed services who have given their lives for our country.

Behind the Badge
Higher Vision Church
The weekend of September 11, Higher Vision will hold three Behind the Badge events to honor police, firefighters, military, and other civil servants for their service. The events will be at 6 p.m. on September 10 and 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. on September 11. Festivities will include a fire truck, kids’ jumper, raffle, food, and a $500 gift certificate for a fire house or police station.

Route 66 Classic Grill 9/11 Tribute
On Saturday, September 10, Route 66 will host a 9/11 tribute in conjunction with its monthly Classic Car Show. The car show starts at 5 p.m. and the tribute will begin at 8 p.m. A 1949 NYFD Search and Rescue Power Wagon will be on display. Active duty military, firefighters, and police officers are invited to attend and enjoy a complimentary dinner from 5-10 p.m.

Requiem
Kirk O’The Valley Community Chorale & String Orchestra
Clair Rydell will conduct the performance of Requiem by Gabriel Faure in remembrance of 9/11. Admission is free and donations will go to “Operation Gratitude.”

The Tenth Anniversary BBQ Lunch
A BBQ lunch from 1:00-3:00 p.m. on September 11 will be followed by Wounded American Warrior Presentations. Information will be provided about SCV Homes For Heroes and Iraq Star. Tickets are $10 each or $50 for 6 and are only available in advance. Iraq and Afghanistan Veterans are invited for free.
The event will be held at Santa Clarita Elks Lodge 2379 located at 17766 Sierra Hwy, Santa Clarita.
St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church Commemorative Event
St. Stephen’s will remember 9/11 in lantern lighting services at 7:30p.m. on September 10 and 7:45 a.m. and 10:00 a.m. on September 11.
The September 10 service will be held at Los Angeles City Hall at 200 North Spring Street, Los Angeles. The September 11 services will be held at 24901 Orchard Village Road, Santa Clarita.
Santa Clarita United Methodist Church Remembrance and Rally
Starting with a 9:30 a.m. service and a family rally throughout the day, SCUMC will honor veterans, police officers, fire fighters, and first responders while providing free health screenings, a blood drive, a live band, and children’s activities.

“The Space Between” Film Tribute
Temple Beth Ami will host a screening at 5 p.m. on September 11 of local writer, director, and producer, Travis Fine’s, film, “The Space Between.” The story follows two unlikely people thrown together in the aftermath of the September 11 terrorist attacks.
