Trail Challenge fundraiser to support volunteers, showcase area trails.
There are a lot of opportunities for outdoor recreation in our valley, and probably more than a few you’ve never heard of. That’s why the SCV Search & Rescue Team is challenging the community to get outdoors and learn more about the great hiking trails around the valley. The event will begin January 30 and continue every weekend until April 18, covering 12 hiking trails in 12 weeks.
Hikers will log their progress by miles or by trails completed. The tracking of individual accomplishments will be done strictly on the honor system. Trail lengths vary from two to nine miles; however, many are “out and back” trails, which can be shortened by simply turning around before the usual turning point. The focus will be on fun and funds, rather than time and distance.
Participants will be asked for a donation of $50 for individuals and $250 for a corporate sponsorship, plus $50 per person. The donations are fully tax deductible, and will support the all-volunteer SCV Search & Rescue Team’s equipment and training expenditures for 2010-2011. All contributors will receive a Search & Rescue 2010 Trail Challenge T-shirt and the chance to coordinate hiking groups with other participants and SCV Search & Rescue Team members.
The challenge will kick off at the picnic grounds at Ed Davis Park in Towsley Canyon on Saturday, January 30. Registration will begin at 9 a.m., followed by the first challenge hike. The SCV Search & Rescue Team and event sponsors will host a barbeque and awards ceremony on April 18 to wrap up the event. The location and time will be announced at a later date. Friends and family of participants are invited to attend the barbeque, for an additional $10 donation per person.
