Reseda Man Drowns In Castaic Lake On Sunday

khts_ambulanceA 28-year old Reseda man drowned in Castaic Lake Sunday evening after water skiing with a group of friends.

According to Sheriff’s Park Division Sgt. John Hargraves, the man, who has not been identified pending notification of his family in Mexico, was with a group of five other people who had been picnicking on the shore.

The group had anchored a float about 75 feet from shore so they could tie up their boat.

After the group finished skiing, shortly after 6:30 p.m., the victim noticed that the float had sunk and swam from the shore toward where the float had been. When he reached the location, his friends told deputies that he simply disappeared beneath the water and never came up.

The friends called 911 and Sheriff’s Parks Division deputies responded, as well as a team of divers, to look for the victim.

“He had sunk to the bottom,” Hargraves explained. “Because of the steep terrain under the water, he drifted down about 80 feet.”

Lifeguards, with the assistance of Air 5, located the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel on board the aircraft.

The Coroner reported that the cause of death was still to be determined, but confirmed the man was a Hispanic, his age was 28 and he was a resident of Reseda.

There is no evidence that the victim had been injured or had been drinking alcohol.
