The volunteers will be removing trash, pulling weeds, placing new bark on all parkways and repairing block walls on upper Whites Canyon Road.
“The city has a need for restoration and we have the manpower to help,” said Gary Lindberg, the director of public affairs for the church of Latter Day Saints in Santa Clarita.
Approximately 300 of Just Serve Mormon Helping Hands members and Santa Clarita City staff will be there to help, Lindberg said.
The city of Santa Clarita will be providing the necessary tools for the project and volunteers were asked to bring along some helpful tools, Lindberg said.
The City encourages community members and local organizations to volunteer assistance in several projects throughout the city and at city events in order to serve fellow residents and sustain the Santa Clarita quality of life, said city officials.
Santa Clarita’s Just Serve Mormon Helping Hands volunteers helped the Saugus Union School district last year with clean up and some pest control, Lindberg said. The year before that they helped with Santa Clarita’s bike path.
“We welcome anyone in the community to join us at the LDS church on Camp Plenty at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday,” Lindberg said.

As part of their goals for 2013, the Santa Clarita City Council has identified beautification of the Whites Canyon Corridor as a priority. The first step towards in the City’s plan to potentially enhance Whites Canyon will be to engage the community to discuss their beautification ideas. To maximize community participation and solicit input from a broad cross-section of the community, City staff is working directly with residents living along the Whites Canyon Corridor to schedule a series of small group meetings to discuss this project.
Participation at these meetings can range from a few neighbors getting together, to a group of a dozen or more. City staff is happy to meet in someone’s living room, at a local park, or at a nearby community gathering place where we can gather and hear your ideas for the beautification of Whites Canyon Road.
If you and your family, friends and/or neighbors are interested in sharing your ideas for how to potentially beautify the Whites Canyon corridor or are interested in hosting a small gathering, let us know!
