Ribbon Cutting At Jo Anne Darcy Library Marks The Beginning Of New Library System

library1It was a monumental day in Santa Clarita as members of City Council and the community gathered to watch the unveiling of the Canyon Country Jo Anne Darcy Library as part of the new Santa Clarita Public Library system.

“This is a very historic day in Santa Clarita,” said Mayor Pro Tem Marsha McLean. “This has been a long process but we have reached success.”

The Canyon Country Jo Anne Darcy Library also received congressional recognition from a representative for Congressman Buck McKeon.

“It proves the City can do something great for the community,” said Paul Strickland, a representative for Assemblyman Cameron Smyth.

The Santa Clarita libraries are now under a new contractor, LSSI, which Mayor McLean says will now provide even more books, magazines and DVD’s.

“Under the new system we will now provide 1.1 million titles, that is 90 thousand more than when we were under the old system,” said Mayor McLean.

Following the ribbon cutting, adults, teens and kids gathered inside the recently refurbished library to explore the area and receive their new library cards.
