Local Roshambo (also known as, rock-paper-scissors) Tournament benefits SCV Family YMCA.
Everyone remembers playing rock-paper-scissors as a kid and this Saturday you can revisit those days by participating in the largest Roshambo Tournament ever held in Santa Clarita. This event, which is set to be packed with prizes, food, and great company, will take place this Saturday, July 19th, at 5 p.m. at YMCA facility on McBean Parkway. All proceeds from the event will go towards the youth programs of the Santa Clarita Valley Family YMCA.
"Many think that the game of rock-paper-scissors is just a game of luck, but there is also some skill involved with it. This is not a random luck of the draw type of game. While some compare the odds similar to a coin-toss, it can actually be played with strategy as competitors play multiple rounds in a tournament format and recognize the non-random behavior of the person that they are playing against," said SCV Family YMCA Director of Development & Communications Chris Clark.
You may be saying to yourself, “I haven’t played rock-paper-scissors since I was a kid, its such a childish game”, but think again. This game is not just a kids game anymore, the game of Roshambo is popping up in more and more places.
"The 2008 Charity Roshambo Tournament will be a first of its kind in Santa Clarita," said Clark. "With just a handful of players this year, the games will go fast but the donations that have been raised because of this will go a long way for our YMCA kids and families."
