Rotarians Donate 200 Turkeys To SCV Food Pantry

khts_givingbackThe Santa Clarita Rotary Club stepped up to the platter today and carved out a happy holiday for local families as they delivered 200 frozen turkeys to the Santa Clarita Valley Food Pantry.

Club members have been making the poultry donation for several years, according to former Santa Clarita Rotary President Mary Ann Colf, who is the club’s community service chair.  She noted that 100 turkeys were delivered to another food bank, Help the Children, earlier in the month.

The Club recently celebrated its 50th anniversary with a reunion of past presidents, old members who had moved away and a large turnout of Rotary membership. Lee Honigsfeld and his wife, Mona, were there, donating $9,000 to the club’s foundation in the name of his uncle, the late Roy Medow, a past Rotary president.

On November 13, Rotary members planted hedges around the buildings at Newhall Elementary School and more than a dozen Rotarians worked at Carousel Ranch on Make A Difference Day. The club has also supported an Eagle Scout installing a handicapped ramp at the Santa Clarita Winter Shelter.

The turkey donations will help the Food Pantry provide Thanksgiving dinners to local families in need. The Pantry is especially in need of macaroni and cheese and canned meats to complete weekly food bags. For information on the pantry, click here. www.scvfoodpantry.org
