Santa Clarita resident Allyson Felix won her third straight gold medal in the women’s 200 meter race at the World Athletics Championships in Berlin.
With a time of 20.02, Felix bested Veronica Campbell Brown of Jamaica and Debbie Ferguson-McKenzie of the Bahamas who took the silver and bronze, respectfully.
Felix told CNN the location of her win – the stadium where Adolf Hitler presided over the 1936 Olympics and the track where Jesse Owens also took home the gold – had unique significance.
“It is very special for me to win here in Berlin,” said Felix. “I’ve worked really hard to defend my title and I cannot ask for more. All my titles are different but this one happened in a stadium with a lot of history so this is definitely something special for me.”
