Runner Blasts Senate For Closing Down Session

Senate and Assembly Republican legislators came to the Legislature Monday ready to do the people’s business

Senate and Assembly Republican legislators came to the Legislature today ready to do the people’s business but the State Legislature is closed down and instead is holding a “check-in” session on the same day as the “The Great American Boycott” – a boycott to support full amnesty of illegal immigrants.  This act is following a resolution the State Senate adopted last week to formally support the boycott which will hurt the economy and encourage students to leave school.

“The State Senate should not have officially endorsed the boycott and the Legislature should not be participating in the boycott by refusing to take up the people’s business today in Senate and Assembly floor sessions,” said Runner. “This is blatant support for a boycott that is a guise by organizers to support amnesty for all illegal immigrants, give illegal immigrants’ drivers licenses, and provide them all of the benefits and services California taxpayers enjoy.”

“It is not appropriate for the State Legislature to endorse such a boycott which will just continue to fuel misinformation and divisiveness instead of encouraging Congress to enact real immigration reform which should include shoring up our porous borders.” The State Legislature generally conducts floor session on Monday and Thursday of each week however today the Senate and the Assembly changed to a “check-in” session.  The Senate and Assembly Republican legislators were here at the State Capitol Monday prepared to conduct today’s business.

Runner continued, “Mexico’s Congress just legalized the possession of heroin, cocaine, methamphetamines, and ecstasy. This is egregious, especially since the State Senate voted to support the boycott in which organizers support open borders.” Furthermore, Senate Concurrent Resolution 113 authored by Senator Gloria Romero (D-Los Angeles) passed on a party-line vote 24-14 last week to support the “Great American Boycott”.
