Runner believes the principal of the bill are it’s fault
Sen. George Runner, R-Antelope Valley, today joined opponents of mandatory spay-and-neuter legislation in urging members of the Senate Local Government Committee to reject the bill, arguing it is a far-reaching measure that would infringe upon the rights of responsible pet owners, or force them to pay staff fines.
“This bill is just another attempt by the government to encroach on the individual liberties and rights of the people,” said Runner.
[view:node_ad=5]Assembly Bill 1634, by Assemblyman Lloyd Levine, D-Van Nuys, would require all dogs and cats in California to be spayed or neutered at six months or face still fines, unless they are registered purebreds and have special, government-issued permits. For those who breed, show or sell dogs or cats in California, they will be required to file for a government permit, or forced to sterilize the animals. The bill lets local jurisdictions decide the amount of the permit fee, but does not set a maximum amount.
AB 1634 is scheduled to be heard on Wednesday in the Senate Local Government Committee.
