Runner Named As Crime Victims United Legislator Of The Year

Senator Runner is honored at the State Capitol Today at the Launch of National Crime Victims Week

Senator George Runner (R-Antelope Valley) was honored today by Crime Victims United as one of their legislators of the year today at their annual rally for victims' rights at the State Capitol. "I am humbled by this honor and I am honored to be with the victims' families today to remind this Legislature that we need tougher laws in California to put and keep these criminals who have preyed on the innocent behind bars," said Runner.
Hundreds of victims' families came to the State Capitol today to voice their support for tougher laws on sex offenders, and to fight against the weakening of Three Strikes.  Further, Mark Lunsford, father of 9-year Jessica who was taken from her bedroom window, raped and was murdered by a missing sex offender, was there to speak out at the rally. He spoke that California needs tougher sex offender laws. Assemblywoman Sharon Runner and Assemblyman Rudy Bermudez (D-Norwalk) honored Mark Lunsford on the floor of the Assembly, and Senator Runner, Senator Jeff Denham (R-Merced), and Senator Elaine Alquist (D-San Jose) honored Lunsford on the floor of the Senate later in the day.
Runner added, ""I will continue to fight to ensure that Three Strikes is not weakened and to try to change laws to speed up death penalty sentences."
