Runner Named Legislator Of The Year By Community College Organizations

He was recognized for his work and commitment to community colleges.

ImageSenator George Runner (R-Antelope Valley) was recognized as Legislator of the Year for the California Community Colleges and the California Community College Trustees.

“Community colleges are an important foundation for every community in California. I believe we must work to make community colleges more accessible to every Californian,” said Runner. Chancellor Marshall Drummond of the California Community Colleges said, “Senator Runner has a long-standing commitment to removing barriers for community colleges. He has helped ensure bonds are funded efficiently and expeditiously for our community college classroom facilities to accommodate students. He has also tirelessly worked to improve the plan check review process and has been a tremendous supporter of our system in all areas.”

Runner was named 2007 Legislator of the Year for his years of work on securing equalization funding, for his authorship of legislation to allow more high school students to take academic summer classes and his efforts to streamline the process for community colleges to build and acquire needed facilities.

“Whether it’s taking classes to learn new skills, or preparing for a new career, or working towards obtaining a degree, almost every Californian or someone in their family has benefited from a community college in some way,” said Runner.

Runner was honored by the California Community Colleges last week and the California Community College Trustees in February 2007. In 1999, Runner was Legislator of the Year for the Association of California Community College Administrators.
