SACRAMENTO — Senator George Runner (R- Antelope Valley) has been appointed to serve on the Senate Select Committee on California’s Master Plan for Education which was recently announced. “I hope that this committee can set aside protecting the status quo and really look investigates the best to better equip our schools with the tools and flexibility to do what they do best – teach children core subjects,” said Senator Runner.
The committee will be authorized to review policies, theory, research and programs related to education at all levels. Previously, Senator Runner served on the Master Plan for Education when he was in the State Assembly. The previous committee concluded its work and published its report in 2002. Runner said, “For this committee to be successful in assisting schools, it is important that the focus is on what is best for the students, not the adults.”
Senator Joe Simitian (D-Palo Alto) will serve as the chair of the committee. The committee will also include Senator Elaine Alquist (D-San Jose), Senator Alan Lowenthal (D-Long Beach), and Senator Abel Maldonado (R-Santa Maria).
