Sen. George Runner today submitted his notice of resignation ahead of being sworn in to the state Board of Equalization, his office has confirmed.
The Republican from the 17th Senate District was elected to the tax board November 2, and will officially step down next Tuesday, December 21. His Board of Equalization term officially begins January 3.

The governor will have 14 days from the date of the resignation to call a special election to fill Runner’s seat.
The election will be conducted under the state’s new top-two primary rules.
