Runner Wins Republican Group’s Support In Equalization Bid

georgerunnerOur State Senator George Runner has won a big endorsement in his bid to win a seat on the Board of Equalization. The California Republican Assembly (CRA), a statewide conservative organization, has officially endorsed Runner for the 2nd district seat.

To garner the endorsement Runner beat out opponents Alan Nakanishi and Barbara Alby, who have both served as legislators from northern California.

“I am honored to have earned the support and confidence of the distinguished delegates of the California Republican Assembly,” Runner said. “I share with CRA an unwavering dedication to conservative values, which includes protecting taxpayers, supporting free enterprise and limiting government’s involvement in our lives.”

To date, Runner has been endorsed by the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers’ Association and former CRA presidents Mike Spence and Steve Franks.

The Board of Equalization’s 2nd district covers 34 counties from San Bernardino to Siskiyou. The Board serves as the administrator for all California taxes. It is served by five members, including four district representatives and the State Controller.

Runner announced his bid for the Board of Equalization in February 2009. He is currently serving his final term in the California legislature. If he is successfully elected to the Board, he will leave the State Senate early to take up his post. A special election to appoint his replacement will be held in 2011. If he is not elected, Runner’s Senate term will end in 2012.
