At the Safe and Secure Community Collection Event, community members can bring personal documentation such as papers, binders, unwanted and expired credit cards and computer disks to be safely destroyed and shredded. Each participant may bring up to five boxes of personal papers of any kind, complete with staples and paper clips, to be shredded for free.

“The Safe and Secure Community Collection Event provides residents with a secure location and opportunity to properly dispose of sensitive materials that can potentially put them at risk if not properly destroyed,” said Mayor Laurene Weste. “The event is a great way to conveniently destroy and dispose of materials to help proactively prevent fraud and protect the environment.”

Residents can also dispose of electronic waste at the event, such as computers and computer equipment, laptops, keyboards printers, scanners and computer mouses. Televisions, computer monitors and flat screens can also be brought to the event for proper destruction, as well as consumer electronics such as VCR’s, tape players, DVD players, radios, cellular phones and PDA’s. Household appliances and hazardous waste, engines, batteries and light bulbs will not be permitted for disposal.

The Safe and Secure Community Collection Event will also feature a Safe Medication Disposal to ensure proper disposal of expired and unused medication. Residents can dispose of prescriptions, over-the-counter medication, and veterinary medication at the event to prevent drug abuse and keep the environment free of materials that cannot be broken down via wastewater treatment. Syringes and medical equipment will not be accepted.

College of the Canyons is located at 26455 Rockwell Canyon Road. For more information on the Safe and Secure Community Collection Event, please visit scvsheriff.com.
