Los Angeles Mayor County Michael D. Antonovich announced the completion of road work on San Francisquito Canyon Road that had been closed after being heavily damaged by severe storms on January 9, 2005. The important link between Antelope Valley and Santa Clarita Valley is fully open without restriction or delays.
While the County Department of Public Works worked to realign and restore the road, a pilot car operation for designated commuting hours started in July 2005. The pilot car operation continued until early January 2006, when the road was reopened to traffic. Motorists had been using a single-lane bridge from July until a temporary two-lane bridge finished construction earlier this month. The two-lane bridge opened on March 15 after a two-week closure of the road for realignment. With the work now completed, no more delays are expected and motorists may travel the restored San Francisquito Canyon Road at normal, appropriate speeds.
