Applicants must be 18 years or older and maintain their principal residence in the City of Santa Clarita during their term of office. Evening availability is also required.
Commission Chair John Dow said that the best candidate for art commissioner is “someone that has passion for the arts, whether that’s visual arts, performing arts… Someone that has energy and a commitment and willingness to serve the community, I think is important, someone that has some thoughts and ideas on how to contribute…”
According to Dow, the new commissioner would have the opportunity to participate in the two key initiatives currently before the Commission.
“One is around the recommendation of the design and implementation of artwork for the roundabout in Newhall. The second is around… the formation of an arts foundation. It’s a great opportunity (for) someone that can get excited about being able to provide input and advise city council on expanding the cultural arts in Santa Clarita.”
All applicants must submit three letters of recommendation with their application, which are due no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, May 24 at the City Clerk’s office at City Hall, Suite 110.
