A Palmdale girl and her father were killed Wednesday afternoon
when the driver of a big rig descending Angeles Crest
Highway lost control of his double-decker car
carrier near Foothill Boulevard,
running through a busy intersection in La Cañada Flintridge and hitting a
number of vehicles and smashing into a bookstore and nail salon.
The victims were identified by the Coroner’s office as
12-year old Angelina Posca and 58-year old Angel Jorge Posca, both of Palmdale,
who were in one of the vehicles on the street. Twelve other people were injured
in the accident, three of them critically.
Lt. Mark Hershey of the Santa Clarita Valley sheriff’s
station said that four deputies from the local station were sent to the scene
of the accident to help with crowd and traffic control, returning Thursday
morning.
Patrons of the bookstore were able to flee before the
truck plowed through the building, but the owner of the nail salon found
herself trapped by the truck against a wall of the store. Building officials said that the damage caused by the accident has made the building unstable.
