The toy drive was kicked off with a live KHTS AM-1220 broadcast from AutoNation Valencia Chevrolet, which is one of several locations where residents can donate.Members of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff's Station take part in the station's annual toy drive

Deputies are collecting toys for families in need over the holidays, and donations will be accepted from now until Dec. 19, said Deputy Josh Dubin of the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies enjoy working with the community we serve,” Dubin said Thursday. “Community partnerships such as this one are an excellent way to give back and help make the holiday season more enjoyable for those in need.”

Additionally, all of the toys donated at Santa Clarita Valley locations will be given to families in need in the Santa Clarita Valley, he said.

Wednesday’s broadcast took place from 4-7 p.m., featuring hundreds of children and their parents at the dealership.

There were also performances from several local elementary schools and children’s groups, including: the Santa Clarita Children’s Choir, led by Jennifer Brown; Rio Vista Elementary students, led by Elise Anderson; Mitchell Elementary School, and representative Kathleen Kinney; Monticello Preparatory, and Rebecca Cranert;  SCVi Charter School, and Harrison Kirk; Fenton Charter School, and Kim Treat; Fair Oaks Elementary and Golden Oak Elementary, with Scott Peters; and Learn Beyond the Book, with Melanie Parson.

Santa Claus also stopped by and listened to wish lists from children.

Anyone interested in making a donation should bring a new, unwrapped toy to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station lobby anytime between now and Dec. 19.

If anyone is interested in hosting a collection box, or needs more information regarding the toydrive, they should contact Deputy Joe Trejo at 661 255 1121 ext. 5160 or email him at jltrejo@lasd.org.
