Santa Clarita Deputies Welcome SCV To Haunted Jailhouse

Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies are welcoming residents to check out their 25th annual Haunted Jailhouse event Sunday, Oct. 26 at the station.

Thousands turn out every year for the pre-Halloween event at the intersection of Valencia and Magic Mountain Parkway, where a $1 donation to the SCV Boys & Girls Club at the entrance is a ticket intended to provide fun for the whole family.

The event enjoys a partnership between Sheriff’s Station deputies who organize the event and dozens of local nonprofit organizations that put on displays and booths with fun and games.Haunted Jailhouse-6

“It’s a great event that lets us open our doors to the Santa Clarita Valley community we serve,” said Deputy Josh Dubin of the Sheriff’s Station’s Crime Prevention Unit, “giving them an opportunity to get to better know their local deputies in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.”

In addition to the “Douse a Deputy Booth,” which gives event-goers a chance to pay for a shot at dunking Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies, there will also be a live broadcast by KHTS AM-1220.

Dubin and KHTS AM-1220 News Director Perry Smith are broadcasting a live show at the event from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

One of the annual favorites, the station’s Halloween Costume Contest for the children in attendance, is another popular feature every year, Dubin said.

Trophies will be awarded for each age categories and times of the contests, which are as follows: Children under age 2 will be judged at 12:30 p.m.; ages 2 to 4 at 1 p.m.; ages 5 to 7 at 1:30 p.m.; ages 8 to 10 at 2 p.m.; ages 11 to 12 at 2:30 p.m.; and ages 13 to adults at 3 p.m.

Another popular attraction is a zip-line ride from the Sheriff’s Station’s Search and Rescue Team, with the cost of tickets also going to support the Santa Clarita Valley Boy & Girls Club.

Volunteers from the Boys & Girls Club also decorate the jailhouse, as local inamtes are sent to another facility, and the local station is turned into a “spooky” attraction for kids.

“This combined effort of the above organizations provides a safe, fun and adventurous Halloween outing that the community looks forward to each year,” Dubin said in a news release. “It also continues to build community partnerships.”
