The food being collected will be used for holiday food baskets given to single-parent families in need during the holiday season.

Single Mothers Outreach, which also provides other resources and support to help single-parent families during difficult times, are providing the families with the assembled baskets.

The LARC food drive is to be staffed by the Aktion Club, a Kiwanis-affiliated community service outreach club whose members are predominantly developmentally disabled adult residents of LARC Ranch, according to a LARC news release.

LARC is a nonprofit organization established in 1959, with a goal to help mentally disabled people thrive by providing housing, physical and social activities, employment training and more.

Located in Saugus, LARC provides housing facilities as a part of their residential program, which offers 13 fully equipped, eight-bedroom homes, care staff, medical professional service, licensed dietician and more.

The Adult Development Center focuses on enhancing and maintaining physical, mental and social skills for LARC Ranch residents.

They also provide a Day Training Activity Center, which is a work-oriented program dedicated to preparing residents who are planning to enter the work environment.
