Santa Clarita Fund Established For Tsunami Victims

Our local Santa Clarita Valley American Red Cross has established a separate fund for Tsunami Victims. All donations will go directly to the American Red Cross International Response Fund, coming from the residents of Santa Clarita. Please write Tsunami Relief Fund on your checks. Make checks payable to the American Red Cross.

Your donations will show support is coming directly from the Santa Clarita Valley, rather than simply coming from individual donations.

Donations may be sent directly to the Santa Clarita American Red Cross, 23152 1/2 Valencia Blvd., Valencia, CA. 91355, (In the K-Mart Shopping Center) (661 259-1805).

Volunteering
People who wish to volunteer should contact their local American Red Cross chapter (661) 259-1805), because the vast majority of volunteer opportunities are typically found within an individual's local community. International disaster relief workers are drawn from a pool of paid and volunteer staff with extensive prior experience.

International Disaster Welfare Inquiries (IDWIs) are not being accepted for disaster affected areas resulting from the earthquake in the Bay of Bengal. At this time, International Red Cross and Red Crescent Society personnel in the affected areas are focusing their efforts on search and rescue and providing shelter, food, clean water, and emergency medical care to the survivors of the disaster.

Inquiries concerning U.S. citizens should be referred to the U.S. Department of State, Office of Overseas Citizens Services, at 1-888-407-4747. Washington, DC area, residents may call 202-647-4000 and ask for the Consular Affairs Task Force. Note that these phone lines are frequently busy during the first days of a large disaster.

Inquiries concerning Non-U.S. citizens should be referred to the appropriate foreign ministries (see the latest chapter information bulletin for more details).

If you would like, you can also refer individuals calling regarding the welfare of immediate family members to Bob Rich in International Services – (213) 739-4519
