Santa Clarita Hosts Youth Summit

The Summit Lesson of “Respecting Ourselves and Respecting Each Other” is Heard.

[view:node_ad=5]On October 1st at the Santa Clarita Valley Activities Center, the City’s Parks, Recreation and Community Services Department hosted the 2008 Youth Summit which focused on the message of “Respecting Ourselves and Respecting Each Other.” Mayor Bob Kellar provided the welcome address to kick-off the Summit and was followed by Cynthia Llerenas, City Community Services Supervisor, who gave a presentation to students on Graffiti Awareness. A group of over three hundred students from the City’s seven local junior high schools attended the 2008 Youth Summit. At the Summit, students participated in interactive team building and self-expression activities, which taught them the importance of respect for themselves, each other and the community. These activities were led by high school students. 

“This event was very beneficial for our youth as it not only provided the opportunity for students to get to know fellow students from other schools and other parts of our City, but it also allowed students to establish rapport, mutual support and respect for each other and for our community,” said Mayor Bob Kellar.
