A team of Santa Clarita lifeguards took first place in the 13th Annual Lifeguard Competition. The competition took place on Sunday, July 29 and was sponsored by the Southern California Public Pool Operators Association.
The 31-member Santa Clarita team competed against 12 other Southern California agencies, with more than 250 of its fastest lifeguards. Santa Clarita placed first among teams from Los Angeles County including L.A. County North, South and East Regions, Alhambra, Carson, El Monte, Ventura, Palmdale, Cerritos and Santa Monica. Cities competed in 20 different events including, swim-run-swim, 200-yard freestyle relay, dummy tow relay, and individual 50 yard and 100 yard freestyle. This is the seventh win for the Santa Clarita lifeguard team.
"Our lifeguards are trained to be swift and safe while competing and while on the job," said Doug Botton, Aquatics Supervisor for the City of Santa Clarita. "They work hard as individuals and as a team."
