Santa Clarita Literacy And Arts Festival Imports Imagination, Creativity

The Santa Clarita Valley Education Foundation is inviting the public to join them for a day of fun & entertainment for all ages Saturday December 5. The Santa Clarita Literacy and Arts Festival has been set for William S. Hart Park from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. that day, and it will mark the third year the Festival has wowed participants.

Santa Clarita’s Literacy & Arts Festival is a day where families and friends can experience and enjoy an array of stories, visual and performing arts in a “diversified and delightful atmosphere.”

Authors, educators, librarians and community leaders will read their favorite stories in five decorated and themed tents, providing 25 hours of combined story time.

Those in attendance are encouraged to bring a gently-read book to trade in for a book they haven’t read at the Book Swap tent, and can enjoy hands-on activities that include theatrical masks, block painting, bookmarks and greeting cards for service people.

Stage acts include California Institute of the Arts’ “Share the World African Storytelling”, Skip Cunnigham – tap dancer extraordinaire, acts from Peter Pan, stomp-inspired percussion from Can U Drum as well as the Mint Canyon Chorus and Placerita Jr. High Drama Club. Enjoy wandering acts, acoustic guitarist, choirs and storybook characters.

In addition, there will be special attractions beckoning viewers to watch as a block of ice is turned into a piece of art, participate in building and rebuilding a life-size Bot with local artist Bob Hernandez and witness the Art of Rock Balancing.

Poets, writers and solo or duo musicians can even show off their talent by joining in the open mic.

Participants are encouraged to dress as a favorite story character; prizes will be awarded.
