Santa Clarita Mayor Appointed To Key Regional Committees

MayorMcLean-SantaClaritaSanta Clarita Mayor Marsha McLean just got a little busier, as she was recently appointed to two regional committees, including the League of California Cities 2011 General Resolutions Committee and the Southern California Association of Government (SCAG) High Speed Rail Sub Committee representing Los Angeles County.

In her role with the League of California Cities, McLean will work with other elected officials to discuss issues facing California cities and develop policy direction on behalf of the League.  Once discussed by the committee and approved, policies are then available to cities throughout the state, providing guidance and the League’s position on state and federal legislation. She will be representing the Los Angeles County Division on the General Resolutions Committee.

In her position as a member of the SCAG High Speed Rail Sub Committee, McLean will help improve regional connectivity by providing (SCAG) staff with direction, guidance and focus in the development of potential high-speed rail alternatives for the 2012 Regional Transportation Plan’s (RTP) constrained and strategic plans.

She will also provide leadership and strategic thinking with respect to potential high-speed rail policy and project planning issues; and develop regional consensus on critical high-speed rail transportation issues as they relate to the completion of the Draft 2012 RTP.

McLean also serves on the Transportation Policy Committee for the organization.

“The policies and programs in development with both organizations will affect our City’s residents and businesses today and in the future.  The City’s involvement with the committees ensures Santa Clarita is represented and that our residents’ concerns are heard,” said McLean.

The Santa Clarita City Council is committed to maintaining a high quality of life for residents and business owners in Santa Clarita, with a particular emphasis on transportation in Santa Clarita and throughout the Southern California region.

In addition to McLean’s most recent committee appointments, she also serves on the Santa Clarita Valley Chamber of Commerce Transportation and Government Affairs Committees and the Orangeline Development Authority.

The League of California Cities is an association of California city officials who work together to enhance their knowledge and skills, exchange information, and combine resources so that they may influence policy decisions that affect cities.  Additional information about the League is available at www.cacities.org.

Southern California Association of Government (SCAG) is the nation’s largest metropolitan planning organization, representing six counties, 191 cities and more than 18 million residents. SCAG undertakes a variety of planning and policy initiatives to encourage a more sustainable Southern California now and in the future.  Additional information about SCAG is available at www.scag.ca.gov.
