July Occupancy Report from PKF Consulting reveals Santa Clarita is a top Los Angeles market

[view:node_ad=5]The July 2007 Trends report from PKF Consulting, a national hospitality research firm, showed Santa Clarita was a coveted summer getaway with the area posting one of the highest occupancy rates in the Los Angeles region at 83.81 percent.

In the past two years Santa Clarita has experienced tremendous hotel market growth, including the opening of a new La Quinta Inn & Suites and Courtyard by Marriott, bringing a total of 280 new rooms to the area’s inventory.

This October a new Embassy Suites will open, providing an additional 156 suites, generous conference and banquet space, and a full-service restaurant to the area.

“Travelers have found they can enjoy the quintessential California experience here, whether they are visiting for business or pleasure.  And that is our goal, to offer attractions, events, and opportunities that keep business and leisure travelers coming to Santa Clarita,” said Mayor Marsha McLean.

“Hotel offerings play a big part in our visitor attraction efforts because they keep Santa Clarita top of mind among meeting and event planners, while also offering visitors options when they stay.”

Santa Clarita had a decrease in percentage of occupied rooms compared with 2006 numbers, as a result of the additional room inventory, but an overall increase in the actual number of rooms occupied.  Prior to the opening of the La Quinta Inn & Suites and Courtyard by Marriott Santa Clarita , the Santa Clarita Valley had approximately 1508 rooms.  In July 2006, the occupancy rate was 91.68 percent with approximately 1383 rooms occupied.  In July 2007, the occupancy rate was 81.81 percent with approximately 116 more rooms in July 2007 than in July 2006.

Santa Clarita’s occupancy is expected to remain high though the fall and winter season with several regional and national events creating demand for local hotels.  These include the City of Santa Clarita’s Street Arts Festival, Loose Goose Wine Festival, Santa Clarita Marathon, and AMGEN Your of California.  Just 25 minutes north of Los Angeles, the Santa Clarita Valley is located between the Santa Susana, San Gabriel, and Tehachapi mountains.  Comprising an area of 55 square miles at an average high of 77 degrees.

Home to Six Flags Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor, the Santa Clarita Valley also boasts several world-class golf courses, a beautiful Town Center Drive complete with specialty boutiques and eateries and historic points of interest like the William S. Hart Museum, Melody Ranch Motion Picture Museum and Mentryville.  The destination includes four distinctive communities, which include Canyon country, Newhall, Saugus, and Valencia, and is only minutes from nearby Castaic, Fillmore, Oxnard, Santa Paula, and Ventura.
