Santa Clarita officials are working to make sure the U.S. Postal Service is aware of residents’ need for a Newhall Post Office, officials said Wednesday, and they’re asking everyone affected to also let the USPS know, too.

“It is a U.S. Post Office process, but we’re trying to influence that process,” said Gail Morgan, spokeswoman for the city of Santa Clarita. “We’ve had a number of people share that with us that we want to keep that office in Newhall.”

The previous post office location used by Newhall residents was located on the 23600 block of Lyons Avenue, at the Smart & Final shopping center.

The new location has been moved to Stevenson Ranch, at 25548 The Old Road, but many in the city feel the location is inconvenient, officials said.

“We are working with the city of Santa Clarita in finding a permanent location,” said Gabriel Magdaleno, noting the current Stevenson Ranch location is a result of an expired lease on the old location, which was unable to be renewed.

The location on The Old Road is intended to be temporary, he said.

“The relocation would have no impact on Post Office Box numbers or ZIP Codes and retail hours and services provided would remain the same,” according to a statement from postal officials.

The Post Office is expected to release a list of sites for possible replacement locations in the area very shortly, officials said, with a 30-day comment period to follow.

The city also plans to help spread the word about the possible sites once they are released, Morgan said, although the selection is a USPS decision.

The city also created a hashtag, #KeepNewhallUSPS to spur social media activity.

  1. Put it back next to the liquor store and turn the mail box around or put it in a place to drive up to less fights
