The money received must be used for necessary home repairs, and applications may be submitted now through May 2015, while funds are available.
“Residents who qualify are actually not as poor as you might think, a single homeowner who makes $45,000 a year might still qualify,” said Erin Lay, the housing program administrator Santa Clarita who’s overseen the program for the last 11 years.
The Residential Rehabilitation Grant Program offers grants to homeowners within city limits who meet specific qualifications.
The funding may be used for eligible repairs to single family homes, townhomes, condominiums and mobile homes. Grant funding may not be used for home remodeling or upgrades.
“The city’s Residential Rehabilitation Grant Program is an opportunity for qualified Santa Clarita homeowners to receive financial assistance to make fundamental home repairs,” said Mayor Laurene Weste. “The grants are an important part of the City’s ongoing effort to maintain and revitalize our community’s neighborhoods, directly enhancing residents’ quality of life.”
Typical allowable repairs include roofing repair and/or replacement, electrical and plumbing repairs, heating and air conditioning repairs (except window units), flooring, tile and wall repairs, modifications for disabled access, repairs needed to fix municipal code violations, and more.
“The city’s Residential Rehabilitation Program has given over 275 grants since the beginning of the program 11 years ago,” says Lay.
