Alan Ball, writer for the HBO drama series “Six Feet Under” and “True Blood”, created the remarkable playwright for “Five Women in the Same Dress”.

Five women use an upstairs bedroom as their sanctuary while trying to avoid the activity from a Knoxville, Tennessee set reception going on beneath them.

Despite being identically dressed, each bride is apprehensive to participate in the proceedings for their own private reasons.

During their time upstairs, the women who appear to be very diverse on the surface, eventually find themselves bonding.

This triumphant comedy results in a wickedly funny, irreverent and heart rending celebration of a woman’s soul.

“Audiences will enjoy watching the ‘behind the scenes’ comedy and drama surrounding this very Southern wedding reception,” said Paul Wickline, chair of the COC theatre department and director of the production.

“Writer Alan Ball perfectly captures the voices of these characters and provides audiences with a witty, insightful look at what has become a rite has become a rite of passage for almost every American woman – the wearing of the bridesmaid dress.”

COC student, Julia Haimowitz, will be assisting Wickline in directing the play.

Her contributions are significant since she is able to give a younger insight from a woman’s perspective.

Wickline expresses that the message from this play is about “women empowerment” and Haimowitz is able to develop leadership skills given the opportunity to work alongside him as she transitions from actor to director.

“Five Women in the Same Dress” opens on Friday, October 11 at 8pm at the The Santa Clarita Performing Arts Center’s Black Box Theatre.
