Santa Clarita Professional Boxer to Compete on May 12 for the World Title

Winner of fight will advance to the world championship
Newhall resident, Juan Ruiz Jr., 27, is scheduled to fight Antonio Escalante, 20, from El Paso, Texas, in the main event “War by the Shore,” on May 12, 2006 at 9 p.m. in Chicago, Illinois.  The winner of this fight will advance to the world championship. The event is produced by ‘Golden Boy’- owned by Oscar De La Hoya.
 
Ruiz, a Hart High School Alumni, began his boxing career in 1997 at the Santa Clarita Community Center where he learned how to fight.  Ranked number five in the world, he holds a record of 22 wins, two loses, six KO’s. The fight will be televised on Univision’s “TeleFurtura” channel on the “Friday Night Fights” program.
