Santa Clarita is ranked as the 48th safest city in California this year according to the list compiled by the National Security Council for Home Security, published on Alarms.org. To view the full report, click here.

This is an improvement from 2017, where Santa Clarita did not make it on their top 50 for the state.

California is the most populous state in America, with the third largest land area. California is in the top 25 percent for violent crime rates and around the middle for property crime rates according to the National Council For Home Security.

Santa Clarita has the second largest population of the cities ranked this year with over 200,000 residents.

Santa Clarita had a total of 331 reported violent crimes over the past year, according to the National Council For Home Security, or 1.51 violent crimes per 1,000 people.

By comparison, Santa Clarita had a total of 3,005 property crimes, with 13.68 incidents per 1,000 residents, according to the report.

The average crime rate per 1,000 Californians is 4.44 violent crimes and 26.45 property crimes according to the report.

Santa Clarita’s ranking was determined by reviewing the most recent FBI Uniform Crime Report statistics, according to the National Council For Home Security. They did not include any cities that failed to submit complete crime reports to the FBI and cities with populations under 10,000 in their list.

Cities were ranked based on the number of reports for crimes per 1,000 residents. Crimes that factored into the report were violent crimes such as assault, murder, rape and robbery. Also considered were property crimes such as burglary, arson and larceny. Violent crimes were weighed 1.5 times heavier than property crimes in the report.

This data coincides with a different report by safehome.org that KHTS reported on in December. This report ranked Santa Clarita as being the 49th safest city in America among cities with populations greater than 50,000.

  1. Don’t believe it. Lock your cars lock your homes. Awful town tries to hide it but they can’t know more. I will not even mention the careless reckless drivers and the terrible accidents that happen every day in this valley

    • Yeah, do they count injury\fatality drunk driving accidents as crimes in these statistics? Seems like the roads of Santa Clarita are becoming as bad as Las Vegas.

  2. Stop kidding yourselves. Did anyone read the two previous stories? 1st story kids stand by while a classmate is beaten severely. 2nd story before this one, DUI arrests. What makes Santa Clarita a safe city especially since so many other incidents happen daily without being reported. Just keep piling more people into the valley and see what continues to happen !!!!!!!

  3. This is a lie. I also wonder if they consider the violence of the police force here. I’ve had multiple instances and multiple friends feel abused m, unsafe and hopeless because the police in this town are hot headed egotistical maniacs. You’re kidding yourselves. This is not a Utopia.

  4. Who ever did this survey has their head buried and is completely out of touch. Either that or the paper has some one pulling strings to report such a story or maybe the editor/publiser are hurting to fill space. Santa Clarita has. Exome a very dangerous city to live in

  5. THIS IS A LIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Santa Clarita has the worst drug problems especially among teens. So sad.
