Mayor Marsha McLean was recognized by Assemblyman Cameron Smyth and California Green Cities and she talked about the efforts that have been put forth into revitalizing Old Town Newhall. The plan for Newhall, which began more than 10 years ago, is a plan that represents the city’s ongoing commitment to smart, environmentally friendly development.

“The plan calls for transit oriented development—which means that people who live, work, and do business in downtown Newhall will be able to rely less on their cars,” McLean said.

Mayor McLean also mentioned that the downtown plan envisions parking garages that would allow visitors to park once in Newhall’s historic district and then have the opportunity to walk the five blocks of Main Street. Mixed use, transit-oriented development is another large aspect of environmental friendliness that our city hopes to achieve in the future.

EMA board member and actress, Francis Fisher, also attended the press conference. “Our planet is in crisis and it is important to do what we can in our own way, then change can occur,” said Fisher.

Environmental Media Association connects environmental issues to celebrities in order to evoke awareness of sustainability and the creation of an environmentally safe planet.

“Our goal is to work together to inspire each other to achieve great things in environmental protection for our cities,” said McLean.
