Local residents, along with a new grant, will help improve navigation on trails, officials announced Wednesday.

The city of Santa Clarita will host a public meeting to discuss adding signs to local pedestrian and bicycle trails, according to a news release. The meeting will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Mar. 21 in the community room at the Old Town Newhall Library, located at 24500 Main Street.

“The public meeting is in response to resident’s requests to add signs along Santa Clarita trails to help pedestrians and cyclists navigate and find destinations,” said a news release. “Community members are invited to attend the public meeting to provide input on the design of the signs, suggest destinations where the signs would be most helpful and provide clarity on which areas of the trails are most difficult to navigate.”

The sign project is partially funded using a grant provided by METRO, and will also include pedestrian and bicycle signage to help direct residents to Metrolink stations throughout Santa Clarita, according to a news release.

“We have a large number of community members in Santa Clarita who love to use the bike and pedestrian trails as an alternative means of transportation,” said Mayor Marsha McLean.  “This grant from METRO will help improve navigation for those residents and escalate the overall enjoyment of our trail system.”
