All Six Foothill League Boys Basketball Teams Advance To CIF Playoffs

Golden Valley hosts Beamont in first round.


In high school basketball, all six boys teams from the Foothill League will advance to CIF playoffs. Golden Valley, the Foothill League champions, will play Beaumont of the Mountain Pass League in the first round of the Division III-A bracket. Hart will host Norco and Valencia faces Troy.
[view:node_ad=5] Canyon draws Thousand Oaks, the top-ranked team in Division II-AA. West Ranch, Saugus and Canyon made the playoffs with at-large bids.

On the girls side, Saugus, the Foothill League champions, will host Palos Verdes Peninsula of the Bay League in the first round. Valencia faces Burroughs of Burbank and West Ranch will play Whittier.

The boys playoffs begin Wednesday night. The girls postseason starts on Thursday.

The College of the Canyons women’s basketball team captured the Western State Conference championship Saturday night with a 109-42 win over LA Valley College. Ashley Wakefield scored 29 points for the Lady Cougars. It was the fourth straight conference championship for the COC women, a perfect 10-0 in conference.

The College of the Canyons men’s basketball team lost to LA Valley College, 87-76.

In college softball, the College of the Canyons won a pair of games on over the weekend. COC downed Fullerton Junior College, 4-3, and American River College, 1-0.

In college baseball, The Master’s College won a doubleheader against San Diego Christian. The Mustangs won the first game, 5-0, and the second game, 10-1, to improve to 12-2 overall, 3-0 in Golden State Athletic Conference play.

The Amgen Tour of California cycling race began on Saturday in Sacramento. Francisco Mancebo of Spain won the first stage on Sunday. Stage 7, from Santa Clarita to Pasadena, will take place on Saturday.
