In less than a month, the Amgen Tour of California will ride into the Santa Clarita Valley.
In the week leading up the the Amgen Tour of California’s arrival in Santa Clarita, the city and local businesses will host several cycling events with live demonstrations, giveaways and a chance to ride on local trails.

The events start with a “Hit the Trail” community bike ride, presented by Total Financial Solutions. The two-hour ride departs from Bridgeport Park at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 10.
The family-friendly ride is a guided, non-competitive tour of the city’s trail system, and returns to Bridgeport Park at 12 p.m. for a cycling-themed fair, featuring tricycle races, a bike clinic hosted by Performance Cyclery and free sandwiches from Jersey Mikes.
The Amgen Tour of California Street Team will also be at the fair, encouraging residents to attend Stages 6 and 7 of the Amgen Tour, on May 16 and 17.
There will be a free Amgen Tour of California Viewing Party on Wednesday, 8 p.m. on May 14 at Salt Creek Grille in the Valencia Town Center.
The event will feature a live recap of Stage 4 of the race, giveaways and a raffle. Prizes include official signed riders jerseys. Food and beverages will be available for purchase.

The city will hold their annual Bike to Work Day, later in the week, on Thursday, May 15, during L.A. Metro’s Bike to Work Week, the biggest bicycle commute in California.
The event challenged local businesses to see how many employees than can get to bike to work. Businesses can register to participate on the city’s site, GreenSantaClarita.com.
The Amgen Tour, itself, comes to Santa Clarita on the morning of Friday, May 16. Stage 6 of the race starts at 11:35 a.m. on Main Street in Old Town Newhall, but spectators are encouraged to come early for autographs and to hear interviews.
The cyclists will race 94 miles to Mountain High, before returning to Valencia on Saturday, May 17 for Stage 7.
They will depart from Westfield Valencia Town Center at 11:40 a.m. for a 90-mile ride to Pasadena.
On the Friday and Saturday of the race, international cycling publication Road Magazine will hold a free community event, “Celebrate Cycling in Santa Clarita.” The event will include cycling safety demonstrations, trick rider exhibitions, group bike rides and a raffle to benefit Circle of Hope, Family Promise of Santa Clarita and the SCV Senior Center.
