The Dodgers snapped their six-game losing streak on the strength of Chad Billingsley’s first shutout in almost two years. He and the Dodgers beat the visiting San Francisco Giants, 2-0, and salvaged one game in the three-game series at Dodger Stadium.

Billingsley gave up only five hits and struck out three. Casey Blake hit a solo home run in the second inning and drove in another run in the eighth inning on a single.

Dodger manager Joe Torre was suspended for one game by Major League Baseball in the aftermath of the game on Tuesday. Bench coach Bob Schaefer was also suspended for one game. Dodger starter Clayton Kershaw was suspended for five games.

The suspensions are the result of Kershaw hitting Aaron Rowand in Tuesday night’s game. Torre, Schaefer and Kershaw were ejected from the game after Rowand was hit.

Schaefer will serve his suspension tonight. Kershaw is appealing the suspension.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers start a weekend series with the New York Mets tonight. It will be Hiroki Kuroda for the Dodgers against Hisanori Takahashi for the Mets. Pregame starts at 6:30 on AM 1220, KHTS.

About Connie Jones

Connie and her husband, John, moved to the Santa Clarita Valley almost 30 years ago. Living in Santa Clarita for that long is the direct opposite of Connie’s childhood. She was an Army ‘brat’ who moved every two to three years. Consequently, she has lived in many states and even spent three years in Europe. All three of her kids went to Santa Clarita schools. Connie says the best thing about her job at KHTS is that she is never bored. “If I’m not smiling, Carl is sure to ask why, just before giving me a mind-boggling project.” “KHTS AM-1220 is an integral part of our community and I’m glad to be a part of it. Besides, the DJs will take my request to play Shania Twain’s ‘Still the One’ for my wedding anniversary – gotta love that!”
