Bike To Work Day Set Thursday

City of Santa Clarita offers pit stops and prizes for riders.


It’s bike to work week and the city of Santa Clarita is having a contest on Thursday – the official 5th annual Bike To Work Day – to promote a no-pollute commute for local companies.


The friendly competition offers the company with the highest participation a frozen yogurt party from Golden Spoon in Valencia and chances to win valuable prizes. There will also be four pit stops sponsored by the city at various spots offering refreshments and giveaways.

Be part of the solution and pledge not only to bike to work, but for a better you and City of Santa Clarita. Bicycling reduces traffic, keeps our air clean, improves your health, and saves you money on gas!

The businesses with the highest participation rate (in each category) will win free frozen yogurt from Golden Spoon-Valencia for all of their participating cyclists. All participants in the event have the opportunity to win free raffle prizes from the City of Santa Clarita. There is no cost to take the challenge!

In addition, every rider has the chance to win a bike, gift certificates, messenger bags, and other great prizes from Metro by pledging to ride at By pledging to ride on Metro’s website and biking to work on May 15, you will be eligible to win prizes from both the City and Metro.

Businesses should designate a “Lead Rider” who will be responsible for registering their business, keeping track of cyclists, encouraging employees to ride, and act as the business point of contact.

The three categories of competition:

Small Business (2-10 employees)
Medium Business (11-100 employees)
Large Business (over 100 employees)

The City teamed up with Metro, Los Angeles County Bicycle Coalition, and Newhall Bicycle to host public pit stops. Cyclists can stop for refreshments, and receive giveaways, including information on cycling. The following pit stops will be open from 7-9 a.m.

Santa Clarita Transit, along with other Los Angeles County transit operators, is offering free bus rides to cyclists on Bike to Work Day, Thursday, May 15. Just place your bicycle on one of the bike racks and show your helmet to the bus driver when you board. Then, relax and enjoy the free ride!
