Both Hart Soccer Teams Sit Atop Foothill League At 5-0 – Santa Clarita Soccer Report – January 24, 2018

Boys Soccer

Saugus (2-2-1): 2

Hart (5-0): 3

The wildest game of the Foothill League season without question, and an unnerving final 15 minutes that had Saugus coaches’ Seth Groller and Joe Madick loudly chastising the referee for losing control of the match.

A recap of the final fifteen minutes:

  • A straight red card given to a Saugus midfielder
  • Two Saugus players bloodied with one taken off on a cart with a gash to the head
  • Three goals, including two in stoppage time

With Hart leading 2-1 heading into five minutes of stoppage time, it felt like an eternity was left in the match, and Saugus felt it intensely.

Down to ten men, Centurions’ goalkeeper Matt Sayers turned his GK jersey in for the No. 16 shirt, and proceeded to tie the game up by willing the ball into goal on a relentless effort.

Hart quickly stormed back with a barrage of shots on the Saugus backup keeper, until Lawrence Luna pounced on his own rebound to tap it home and preserve the Indians’ undefeated record.

“I was saying to the guys, not getting too excited about the game–just relax a little bit, take a breather … don’t make it bigger than it is,” said Hart head coach Adonay Jovel

West Ranch (4-1): 2

Golden Valley (0-5): 0

West Ranch traveled to Golden Valley Tuesday looking to move on from last Friday’s 1-0 loss to Hart, and the Wildcats did just that.

West Ranch struck first with a goal by senior striker Danny Paredes in the first half, then Connor Desser would intercept a pass and double the road team’s lead in the 44th minute.

This lead would prove to be insurmountable and the Wildcats went on to win 2-0, staying a game behind the Hart Indians in second place in the Foothill League.

Next up for West Ranch is Canyon on Friday, while Golden Valley has the tough task of going on the road to Hart.

Canyon (2-3): 2

Valencia (1-3-1): 1

The Cowboys picked up what is easily their biggest league win in at least a decade, upsetting the struggling Vikings at home.

It was their first win over Valencia in over five seasons.

Hart (5-0): 1

Saugus (1-2-2): 0

Hart got revenge for the shootout loss it suffered to Saugus in the Hart Showcase Final.

The second half winner took the Indians Foothill League goal differential to +11 (11 goals for, zero against) and they, along with the boys team, sit alone at the top of the league standings.

West Ranch (2-2-1): 3

Golden Valley (0-5): 0

That first league win continues to elude the Grizzlies, as West Ranch scored two goals in the first half and iced the game with a third after the break.

West Ranch sits in a tie for third place with Valencia at 7 points.

Valencia (2-2-1): 2

Canyon (3-2): 1

The Vikings got a late winner to pull off a road upset over Canyon, moving into a tie with West Ranch for third and just two points behind the Cowboys for second.
