Cal State Northridge Women’s Soccer Team Ranked No. 3 In Big West Conference

khts_sportsThe Cal State Northtridge women’s soccer team, which features four players who graduated from Santa Clarita high schools, is ranked third in the Big West Conference preseason coaches poll.

Senior Brielle Slepicoff from Saugus High School, an All-Big West Conference first team selection last year, and junior Katie Russ from Canyon High school are two of the defenders on the CSUN soccer team.

Cynthia Jacobo, the goaltender on the Santa Clarita Blue Heat women’s soccer team, is also a starter for CSUN and earned an all-conference honorable mention last year.

UC Irvine was ranked No. 1 in the Big West Conference preseason coaches poll.

CSUN opens against UCLA on Friday night.

In baseball, the Angels lost again to the Texas Rangers and dropped seven games out of first place in the American League West standings.

The Rangers scored two runs in the eighth inning, came from behind and won, 4-3.

In other games, the A’s beat the Orioles, 6-5, and the Mariners lost to the Blue Jays, 5-1.

The Rays shut out the Red Sox, 4-0, the Indians beat the White Sox, 4-1, the Royals slipped past the Yankees, 5-4, and the Twins beat the Tigers, 6-5.

In the National League, the Giants beat the Braves, 7-5, the Rockies clobbered the Marlins, 12-5, the Phillies throttled the Diamondbacks, 9-2, and the Mets pounded the Padres, 7-3.

The Astros beat the Cubs, 4-3, the Reds beat the Nationals, 2-1, and the Cardinals beat the Pirates, 7-2.
