Canyon Baseball Team Takes Over First Place In Foothill League Standings

The Canyon baseball team needed extra innings to knock Valencia out of first place in the Foothill League standings.

Canyon beat Valencia, 2-1, scoring the winning run in the top of the eighth inning. The Cowboys win coupled with a Saugus loss to West Ranch leaves Canyon all alone in first place in league.

Chris Serrano capped a 4-for-4 day driving in the winning run with a bases-loaded infield single. He also scored a run and stole a base.

Max Weinstein started the game for Canyon and went six innings. He gave up one run on four hits and struck out three.

The West Ranch baseball team beat Saugus, 13-6. Brandon Silva drove in three runs and had a two-run single in a five-run seventh inning.

The Hart baseball team beat Golden Valley, 6-5, and scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the seventh inning.

Colby Kaneshiro knocked in the game-winner with an RBI single for Hart.

In high school volleyball, the West Ranch boys swept Canyon in three games to improve to 2-0 in Foothill League play.

In high school golf, the West Ranch boys won the first Foothill League match of the season by 24 strokes over Hart at Robinson Ranch.

The Wildcats shot 385 as a team and Joey Downey shot the low round of the day, a 1-over 72.

In college baseball, The Master’s College scored four runs in the top of the eighth inning and beat Concordia, 7-5, in a match-up of two teams in the NAIA top 25.

Joe Riddle hit a solo home run and Sam Robison was 2-for-3 with a double, drove in a run and scored a run for the Mustangs, ranked No. 5 in the NAIA.

Concordia, ranked No. 13 in the NAIA, had a 5-3 lead before The Master’s College rallied in the eighth inning.

In college basketball, The Master’s College women were ranked No. 12 in the final NAIA top 25 poll. The Lady Mustangs lost in the first round of the NAIA national basketball tournament.

Westmont was ranked No. 1 after winning its first NAIA national championship.

In the NBA, the Lakers beat the Minnesota Timberwolves, 120-117, and snapped a three-game losing streak. The Lakers beat the Timberwolves for the 22nd consecutive time.

In spring training, the Dodgers lost to the Seattle Mariners, 10-7. Clayton Kershaw made his final Cactus League start and gave up three runs on five hits in three innings.

In the NHL, the Kings are in St. Louis tonight for a game against the Blues. The Kings are coming off a 5-4 win over the Chicago Blackhawks.
