Canyon Baseball Team Wins Second Game In Beach Pit Classic

sportscanyonThe Canyon baseball team is moving along in the Beach Pit Classic. Canyon beat Corona Del Mar, 5-2, to win its second game in the tournament.

Thomas Kracky pitched a complete game and was 1-for-4 with an RBI at the plate. Icezack Flemming and Kyle Froelich each drove in a run for Canyon, which plays Estancia next in the Beach Pit Classic.

 

The Hart baseball team lost to Torrance, 4-3, in the OC Nissan Tournament. Torrance scored two runs with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to win the game. It was the third game in a row that Hart has lost in the seventh inning.

The Saugus baseball team lost to Woodbridge, 6-4, in the OC Nissan Tournament. Saugus had a 4-1 lead in the third inning, but Woodbridge rallied for five runs in the fourth inning. Nick Lombardi was 2-for-4 with a double and scored two runs for Saugus.

The Valencia baseball team lost to Capistrano Valley, 4-0, in the Anaheim Lions tournament. Valencia was held to three hits in the game.

The West Ranch baseball team lost to Orange Lutheran, 4-1, in the opening round of the National Classic at El Dorado High School in Placentia. Orange Lutheran scored four runs in the top of the fifth inning. West Ranch had a 1-0 lead after scoring in the fourth inning.

In college golf, the College of the Canyons mens’s team won a Western State Conference match by four strokes over Santa Barbara. COC shot 386 as a team and was led by Dino Giacomazzi’s 1-over 73. Santa Barbara shot 390.

In college basketball, Duke beat Butler, 61-59, to win the NCAA men’s basketball tournament. Butler had a chance to win the game with a desperation 3-pointer, but it rattled off the front of the rim. Duke won its fourth NCAA men’s basketball championship. Kyle Singler scored 19 points and had nine rebounds in the championship game.

With Butler down by two points, Gordon Hayward heaved a half-court shot that hit the front of the rim as time expired. Hayward and Shelvin Mack each scored 12 points for Butler.

The Dodgers and Vicente Padilla got knocked around the ball park on opening day against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Garrett Jones hit two home runs for the Pirates in an 11-5 win. The Dodgers have the day off today and resume their series with Pittsburgh on Wednesday.

The Kings are winding down the regular season and will be in Anaheim tonight for a game against the Ducks. This can be a revenge game for the Kings. The Ducks beat them 2-1 in a shootout on Saturday. The Kings can eliminate the Ducks from playoff contention with a win tonight. Pregame starts at 6:30 on AM 1220, KHTS.
