Canyon Basketball Teams Win Foothill League Openers

khts_sportsCanyon basketball has arrived in a big way.

Both the Canyon boys and girls basketball teams won their Foothill League openers convincingly.

The Canyon boys beat Saugus by 17 points, 76-59, to win their ninth game in a row. Clay Kasdorf scored 28 points for Canyon. Coley Apsay added 21 points.

Jeremy Gatewood scored 19 points for Saugus.

The Canyon girls knocked off Saugus, 50-41, to win their Foothill League opener. Tiffini Stone scored 14 of her 17 points in the second half as Canyon pulled away.

The Canyon girls made seven 3-pointers in the game. Kim Smither scored 13 points for Saugus.

In other Foothill League action, the Valencia boys beat Golden Valley, 75-46. Daniel Salovich scored 12 points, all on free throws, for Valencia.

The West Ranch boys won a tight one against Hart, 74-71. Kevin Harris scored 22 points, 11 in the third quarter, for West Ranch.

Myles Franklin and Lewis Stallworth each scored 19 points for Hart.

The Valencia girls beat Golden Valley, 81-42. Kalia Summerlin scored 26 points for Valencia.

The West Ranch girls beat Hart, 54-33. Whitney Branham had 21 points for West Ranch.

The Trinity boys basketball team beat Newbury Park Adventist, 57-41. James Brooks had 24 points and 10 rebounds for Trinity.

In high school soccer, the West Ranch boys opened Foothill League with a 2-0 shutout over Hart. Chris Tumasone scored both goals for West Ranch.

The Canyon boys beat Saugus, 4-2, behind a pair of goals from AJ Rochow.

The Saugus girls shut out Canyon, 2-0, taking an early lead on a goal by Alana Shaw. Avery Schuhofer gave Saugus a two-goal lead later in the first half.

The Hart and West Ranch girls played to a 1-1 draw. Hailey Reynolds scored for West Ranch. Jenny Chavez scored for Hart.

In college basketball, The Master’s College men, ranked No. 16 in the NAIA, lost to No. 4 Concordia, 91-80.

Anthony Cammon scored 23 points for The Master’s College.

The Master’s College women lost to Concordia, 83-73. Whitney Best scored 16 points for the Mustangs.
