The Canyon boys basketball team is showing no mercy these days. Led by 15 points from Coley Apsay, Canyon built a 50-point lead and beat Panorama, 72-22, in the Canyon Classic last night. Canyon posted a 41-point win over Muir in the first game of the tournament.
In other games in the Canyon Classic, Valencia edged Eastside, 58-52, and West Ranch lost a heartbreaker, 59-58, to Paraclete.
Valencia’s Lonnie Jackson had another big game, scoring 26 points and grabbing 10 rebounds against Eastside.
Paraclete converted a four-point play on a last-second 3-point shot and foul to knock off West Ranch by one point.
Martin Flowers gave West Ranch a three-point lead from the free-throw line, but Paraclete’s Nikko Mendoza knocked down a 3-pointer and was fouled with 8.2 seconds left in the game. He sank the crucial free throw to give his team a one-point win.
The Santa Clarita Christian boys team beat West Valley Christian, 54-32. Davion Cotterell recorded a triple double with 26 points, 11 rebounds and 11 steals for Santa Clarita Christian.
The Hart girls basketball team got 19 points from Mariah Glasshoff in her team’s 49-39 win over Channel Islands.
The Saugus girls lost to Moorpark, 45-36, in the Golden State Tournament. Megan Dawe scored a team-high eight points for Saugus.
The Santa Clarita Christian girls basketball team lost to West Valley Christian, 50-32. Kaitlyn Preheim scored 12 points and Carolann Scott had 11 points and seven rebounds for Santa Clarita Christian.
In high school soccer, the Valencia boys shut out Alemany, 5-0 and the Hart girls tied Chaminade, 1-1.
