Canyon Boys Basketball Team Advances To Ventura Tournament Title Game

khts_sportsThe Canyon boys basketball team is in position to win the Ventura tournament. Canyon needed a big game from Coley Apsay and Clay Kasdorf to beat Oxnard, 68-64, in the semifinals.

Apsay and Kasdorf each scored 24 points. Canyon will play host Ventura in the championship game of the tournament tonight.

The Hart boys beat Reseda, 81-58, on the second day of the Hart Holiday Classic. Austin Maly scored 27 points and hit seven 3-pointers to lead Hart.

The Indians play Knight in the final game of pool play in the tournament tonight at 7:30.

The Saugus boys basketball team lost to Chaminade, 55-32, in the semifinals of the Chaminade tournament.

On the girls side, Valencia beat Burbank, 75-53, in the West Coast Holiday Classic. Freshman Talia Roth scored 11 points, had eight rebounds and dished out seven assists for Valencia.

Ashley Pinsker led Valencia with 15 points.

West Ranch beat Castlemont of Oakland, 60-34, in the West Coast Holiday Classic. Alexus Bryant scored 18 points to lead West Ranch.

The Canyon girls beat Santa Monica, 59-40, and will play in the consolation final of the West Coast Holiday Classic. Alia McCoy scored 17 points for Canyon.

The Golden Valley girls beat Flintridge Sacred Heart, 44-42, at the La Canada tournament. Janae Dean scored 16 points and had 14 rebounds.

The Saugus girls lost to Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks, 38-37, in the West Coast Holiday Classic. Megan Dawe scored 22 points in the loss.

In high school soccer, the Canyon girls shut out Agoura, 2-0, and won the third-place game in Flight 1 of the Hart Holiday Classic. Sarah Clipperly and Kyle Danforth scored for Canyon.

The Valencia boys lost to Rosamond, 3-2 on penalty kicks, in the third-place game of the Hart Soccer Showcase. The two teams tied 3-3 in regulation. Josh Singer, Brett Schreiber and Jesus Fernandez scored for Valencia.

The Saugus boys lost to East Valley from North Hollywood, 3-1, in the fifth-place game of the Hart Soccer Showcase. Danny Torres scored the lone goal for Saugus late in the second half.

In college basketball, the College of the Canyons men needed overtime to beat Palomar, 71-62, in the Cougar Holiday Classic. Rafael Love scored six points in overtime and led COC with 23 points and eight rebounds.

COC plays Antelope Valley College in the championship game tonight.

The Master’s College women beat Hastings from Nebraska, 73-65. Morgan Schwegler led three players from The Master’s College in double figures. She scored 19 points.

In hockey, the Kings shut out the Blackhawks, 2-0, and won their second game in a row. Goaltender Jonathan Quick made 38 saves and recorded his NHL leading fifth shutout of the season.

The Kings are in Winnipeg for a game against the Jets tonight. Listen to the game on AM 1220, KHTS. The puck drops at 5:30.
