Canyon Boys Basketball Team Cuts It Close Against West Ranch

The Canyon boys basketball team escaped with a 53-50 win over West Ranch and improved to 2-0 in Foothill League play.

Ben Taufahema scored 14 points for Canyon and hit the game-winning 3-pointer with a little more than a minute to play.

Steven Brotz scored 15 points to lead the Cowboys. Canyon has a 15-game winning streak and an 18-1 overall record.

Santa Clarita High School Sports

West Ranch’s Izayah Doyle scored a game-high 18 points.

The Valencia boys beat Golden Valley, 67-57, rallying in the fourth quarter to win the game. The score was tied, 42-42, after three quarters.

Valencia outscored Golden Valley, 25-15, in the fourth quarter.

Dakota Abbott scored 19 points for Valencia, 12 in the fourth quarter.

The Vikings improved to 2-0 in the Foothill League. They play Canyon on Tuesday night.

The Hart boys beat Saugus, 79-66. Myles Franklin led Hart with 22 points. The Indians improved to 2-0 in league and 16-1 overall.

The Albert Einstein Academy boys basketball team lost to Oakwood, 87-74, in the War on the Floor Showcase.

On the girls side, Valencia beat Golden Valley, 67-41. Paige Nealy scored 23 points and had 13 rebounds for Valencia.

In high school football, Valencia’s Nick Jones caught two touchdown passes to lead the East team over the West, 34-23, in the Daily News All-Star Game at College of the Canyons.

Jones was selected as the MVP of the game. He caught four passes for 45 yards with touchdown catches of 10 and 15 yards.

Canyon quarterback Cade Apsay threw for 131 yards and a touchdown plus scored on a 3-yard run. He was selected as the East team MVP.

In the NFL, the Denver Broncos will face the Seattle Seahawks in the Super Bowl.

The Broncos beat the New England Patriots, 26-16, in the AFC championship game.

The Seahawks advanced to the Super Bowl after beating the San Francisco 49ers, 23-17, in the NFC championship game.

Los Angeles Sports Report

In the NBA, the Lakers won a rare game on the road, 112-106, over the Toronto Raptors. The Lakers continue their road trip against the Bulls in Chicago tonight.

In the NHL, the Kings are in Boston for a game against the Bruins this afternoon. The Kings are coming off a 3-2 shootout loss to the Detroit Red Wings on Saturday.

The Kings are 1-1 on their five-game road trip.
